The Stupifying of the House of Representatives

Replacing competence with incompetence, by intent

One good way to take big government down is to put seriously crazy people in charge and give them raw power. People who fear Jewish lasers in space, pizza parlor pedophile rings, and all non-white people. Good, competent, stupid people.

Actually they are not good, not competent, but measurably dumb in their ideas about government. They hate it, but they have used it to advance their own crackpot view of life. And now they are running one third of the US government.

By design.

Is the government inherently bad? Not that I can see. Compared to many large countries it is less corrupt, less bureaucratic, and less intrusive. And the US is an enormous place with hundreds of millions of people, huge cities, unimaginably wild and beautiful scenery, and the largest economy on the planet.

It needs a big caretaker, which is what the federal government is supposed to be.

That thriving economy today added 530,000 jobs, destroying a predicted estimate of 180,000. Unemployment is at 3.5%, the lowest in modern times. It can’t actually get any lower, statistically.

The inflation bogeyman showed up, but mainly because oil companies are raping consumers and logging record profits never seen before. And we had to destroy a lot of chickens because of disease, so eggs cost a lot. So much for the recession.

Good news is bad news for Republicans, a kind of Orwellian logic that says there cannot be any real good news if Democrats are running things. And Democrats, despite Kevin McCarthy, are actually running things.

Because running things implies the government is working. So, what is the House Republican Party doing? Investigating conspiracy theories and kicking out competent people and replacing them with paranoid nut cases.

We should all be horrified. Meanwhile Biden successes, like the infrastructure act, are out there pouring money into long term positive things like bridges, tunnels, transportation, and other stuff people actually use. And the President’s efforts to curb inflation are largely working, though he can’t legislate more egg-laying hens.
