Revolution Clinch Top Spot In Eastern Conference Before Any Other Club Clinches Playoff Spot

On a day when the New England Revolution did not even play they accomplished something that they hadn’t done since 2005. With a 0–0 draw between Nashville SC and NYCFC, the Revolution clinched the top spot in the Eastern Conference. This was the first time that the Revs have accomplished this feat in a regular season since 2005 when there were only six clubs in the conference.

With the top spot locked up, the Revolution earn a round-one bye and home-field advantage throughout the 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs. New England remains the only team in the league to have a playoff spot clinched with over one month to go in the season.

For a local view, this is the first time a team that calls Gillette home (Patriots & Revolution) have finished atop their conference since the 2017 New England Patriots.

New England which is currently 20–4–5 with five matches remaining on the year are +14 point leaders in the Supporters Shield race. Winning the Supporters Shield trophy would earn the Revolution a spot in the Concacaf Champions League for the first time in franchise history

The Revolution are currently on a two-week hiatus due to the October international break. A few players will be serving with their national teams with Matt Turner with the United States and Tajon Buchanan with Canada for World Cup Qualifiers. New England will be back in action on October 16th when they host the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium at 7:00 p.m. ET.
