Today I wrote a beautiful thing.

Beauty is in the perception however, not in the ascetic.

Please ignore the fact that this is written on standard loose lined paper, affixed in a clipboard, on a desk that is insanely cluttered when it’s clean, and worse the rest of the time.

I was in distress today at my desk; it’s been a very hard week for reasons I can only discuss with my father. What this means is that I spent some time trying to clean up my desk while I was trying to clear out my head.

Accounting and fuzzy thinking don’t go well together.

I found my fountain pen from more than ten years ago.

I thought I had lost it.

It was like opening a box found in the basement and beginning to remember who I used to be, before I lost and gave up everything.

I spent this evening working the pen back to functional. See, fountain pens, especially Waterman pens are of fantastic quality. They often feature refillable cartridges, and tend to use water based ink. They can often be recovered from all kinds and levels of neglect as long as the hardware isn’t damaged.

This one was dried out in the extreme, but soaking and rinsing it several times over the evening cleared it right up.

My fingers will eventually come clean, and for now, all I have for ink is a bright red stamp refill ink. It’s also water-based, made by Trodat.

The knots of my soul are loosening. I am actually crying, silently and alone, with the release I am feeling, all from flowing a few meaningless words onto a discarded page.
