Milk and Honey Promises

Are you there God? It’s me, Kamil.

As much as I believe in you, I sometimes live my life like you barely exist at all. I find myself so overwhelmed with the world that I forget the solid foundation of your word.

Grounding.
All-encompassing.
Good, through and through.

You know how heavy my heart is. How far you sometimes seem. How I sometimes picture myself reaching for you in times of utmost despair, my faith slipping through my fingertips like sand.

I know what it feels like to talk to you at night, with only my tears keeping me company. Prayerful that they’ll find their way to you, even though the weight of the world holds them down like gravity.

On my best day, I’m desperate for you. A lost soul doing their best to live their life for you, only to fall short time and time again.

Remembering that I’ll never meet the standard.
Remembering that I’ll never be a perfect replication of you, though I was created in your image.

I hope I always look to you in pure discovery like I’ve never laid my eyes on something so exquisite. So special. I haven’t and don’t believe I ever will. It’s in these moments of awe that your love finds me.

I’m reminded of your promises.

Promises that will never be made void.
Promises of milk and honey.
Promises of no more affliction.

I think of the world in front of me. One that is often more callous than kind. One that would rather keep you down than offer a hand to lift you up.

You are nothing like them, and for this I am thankful.
